Unfrozen Freezers

Most of us take our freezers for granted.  Why is that?  After all, freezers are the “mother” to the refrigerator: always keeping them safe, and welcoming friends that need a place to stay.  Most household freezers maintain temperatures from −23 to −18 °C (−9 to 0 °F), although some freezer-only units can achieve −34 °C (−29 °F) and lower.  What happens when you notice that your freezer is not keeping things frozen?  If you’re like me, you tend to ignore the obvious facts such as water puddles in front of the fridge, and food spoiling faster than it should.  My advice…?  Don’t ignore the signs, but get your freezer repaired as soon as possible.  The cost of fixing your freezer may far outweigh the spoilage that can occur if your freezer goes out.

You may feel that finding a good Orange County freezer repairperson is like finding a needle in a haystack; but not to worry: Omega Appliance Repair, serving all of Orange County is on call 24/7, and has an excellent reputation.

The first refrigeration system was built by James Harrison, a British journalist who immigrated to Australia, and built what was then referred to as a practical vapor compression system.  His refrigerators kept food cold by using ether alcohol or ammonia.  He then went on to build a residential ice-making machine in 1851 in Geelong, Victoria, and a commercial ice-making machine soon followed in 1854.

Of course the freezer has seen many changes over the years…

…but the purpose remains the same: keep food fresh and safe for as long as possible.

SIGNS YOUR REFRIGERATOR IS BROKEN.

Nearly since its invention the refrigerator has been a staple in the home. Even though pretty much all of us use a fridge on a daily basis most of us have no idea how to know when something is wrong. We're here to talk about some of the symptoms that will let you know if your refrigerator is in need of a repair.

Is Your Refrigerator Running?
This is where I should say “better go catch it,” but a refrigerator that never stops running is actually an issue. A fridge works like a heater in that it should only turn on in order to maintain temperature. If you open the door or the fridge hasn't run in a while then it should kick on to get back to temp. If it is always running non-stop then there is something wrong and it needs to be looked at.

Keeping Things Cool?
The refrigerator has only one job, keep things cool and if it can't do that then there is probably something wrong. By cool I do mean cool, not frozen which is a regular issue. It is possible that your goods in the fridge are freezing while your freezer is barely keeping things cool. Double check that your thermostats are all set correctly, if they are then it is time for a repair.

Hot Outside?
If the outside shell of your refrigerator is hot then there is an insulation problem. The heat from the appliance running should be felt through the shell. This can be an expensive repair so if you have an older fridge it might be a cheaper solution to just upgrade your fridge.

The Door Seal
The seal on the door of your fridge is a small but important factor in the cooling of your food. Without the seal functioning correctly a lot of heat will be allowed inside the fridge. Obviously nobody wants their fridge anything other than cool, so make sure to get the seal repaired ASAP. Otherwise you might find that food goes bad faster and your electric bills are higher as the fridge tries to do overtime.
